Conventions of Comedy
The conventions for comedy film are based on the type of comedy you are doing however some apply to all comedies.
1.Settings are in a bright place usually where it is well populated
2.Camerawork is naturalistic and film in a way that shows that the main character is superior to all the other characters.
3.Sound is the most important things in comedy. Diegetic sounds like the dialogue has to be clear so that it could be laughed at. Non-diegetic sounds is also important. It is used to place emphasis on certain scenes.
4.The lighting is mostly bright because it creates a realistic environment. Most scenes are shot in daylight.
5. Props are another very important part of comedy. The props that hurt the main character are the memorable ones.This is especially important in slapstick comedy where situations are absurd and actions are vigorous and violent.
6.Characters are idiotic and used in comparison to "normal" people. Usually compared because they are smart but are socially awkward. The most noticeable trait is sarcasm.
