Week 5

Evaluation

Question 1

Question 2
1)Joey Sukonlawut is a high school kid born in a middle class Thai family who lives in a boarding school. This is shown in the first cut where the background is his boarding. His love to playing magic is also shown in the swipe scene where he swipes 2 pieces of paper together. He also owns suits. These suits are made by Taylor Constants as shown in the card.

2)I would use Kento Varavarn to act as Joey. He fits the role very well as his personality is what I intend the character to be like.

3)The evidence of a troubled child is very faint at the start. At the end of the first scene. The camera moves a slight bit this is done in an attempt to make the sequence feel a bit rough since his life is rough. The whole sequence is a bit gloomy despite the conventions of comedy being that it is filmed in a bright place.

Question  3

My main target audience would be adults aged at about 25-39 since some of their school background is from this type of school. It would particularly hit people who had problems in their school life and was bullied on for being weird and silly.

Question 4

Question 5

Codes and Conventions- At the start of October, I did not know the word conventions no need to mention for comedy type films. At the end of February, This is more clear and more understandable since I have to use it a lot during the production of the film opening.

Planning & Organisation- My organisation skills were very bad to begin with. During the course, It has improved by a very slight bit. Working in a team and working alone of course had its different benefits.
Camera Work- I did not know how to  cameras at the start, but having to use them all the time during the course caused to understand different things about it and got me into photography.Visual FX- At the start of the course, I knew what they were but didn't know quite how to incorporate them. Now, they are almost the most crucial part in most of my editing as my style requires some fancy things but rather depending on what the task is.
Editing- I loved to edit videos from the start. This course involved a lot of editing. When more tools at my disposal, I can safely say that it has improved by a lot. With that I did not realize how much power editing holds in creating meaning.Creative confidence- My ideas in creating videos and sequences were very much over the top but with my skills in creating the work right now, they aren't realistic. My creative confidence is very mediocre as most of it isn't realistic.

Question 6

Research and planning
Much of the research that I did was digitally based using websites such as imdb.com and wikipedia to a get a grasp of current comedies and expected conventions.
Sites such as artofthetitle.com were useful for not only looking at analysis of use of credits but looking at how professionals plan and created their own work.

All my findings were then put on blogger - another digital site - as it enabled me to upload images and combine it with texts. I also used sites as google slides to present the conventions I found. Due to the embed codes these were easily put onto the blog.

Youtube is another site that allows sharing and embedding and was very useful for looking at clips from comedies and looking for inspiration.
Youtube was also used as a hosting site for my own content which enabled me to share it with other people in my class and get their feedback. It also allowed me to post it on my blog.

In terms of other planning I tended to use paperwork to storyboard and plan a schedule. There are digital apps to do this but for ease of carrying around, especially on location, paper made more sense.

I look at youtube for tutorials for After Effects

Production
I used a DSLR to film the piece. The focus capabilities were very useful for the shot of the car and the boarding house in the background.
Shooting with a DSLR allowed me to shoot a lot of footage and then choose the best clips.
As well as shooting on location I used Photoshop to create the cards from the credits in the title. Creating digitally wasn’t enough as they had to be printed and then laminated to seem real.

Much of the other props were paper based and had to be made before the shoot.

Post production
I use a lot of effects in the opening and made use of Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects. These three softwares are all created by Adobe and are designed to work together (integrate).
I’ve covered my process of working in these posts.
As an overview I looked at youtube video to learns techniques, then used Photoshop to cut out the images I need and make them have transparent backgrounds. Next I took the psd documents into After Effects which recognised the transparencies. I then animated and moved the different PSD images to create motion.
Once I had the animation I moved the project to Premiere to add sound. Finally I exported it in a digital format so I could put onto the start of the final opening and also so I could upload it to youtube.

All this is only possible as the different technologies are designed to work each other.

Week 4

Editing

I used Photoshop and After effects to edit most of my opening.

The Swipe

I masked the 2 shots over each other and masked along the arm as the arm swept. With the speed of the arm itself it looks continuous and uncut. This was to depict that he likes playing magic.

I used the write on function in AE to make it seem as if 'Joey' was the one writing it.

Using Pr, i put together all the components and added some diagetic sound to the sequence making it seem more original.

Week 3

Filming

When filming the birds eye view shots, i used a tripod and placed it against the wall to make the camera stable. This took some effort as the tripod and the camera was fairly heavy and moving the props at the same time added to the fatigue in holding up the tripod. Most shots are took in bright light and the background usually is the setting for the film itself. The background for the production crews credits are set up to their corresponding jobs.

Week 2
Ident Making

Plant was a random name since I thought it was easy to remember and simple which are what makes Idents an ident. I used photoshop to make the text parts I needed making white backgrounds transparent.

The background was made by putting a bunch of layers on top of each other. I put every component into Aftereffects. I added motion blur to make the monkey seem a bit more realistic.

I then go on to work with it in premiere to add sounds to it finishing the ident.

The finished product

Student Card Making

I used a picture of a Yr13 Student as the star. I specifically asked him to make his face look as idiotic as possible without ruining the sense that he is a student. This card is meant to show that the character is in his last year of school and that he lives in boarding. The logo came directly from the meaning of the word myriad which is indefinitely a large number.
I used the color orange because it is bright and is catchy even from a distant. I used warp text to create a sense that it is still a credit sequence and not just a showcase.

Taylor Card Making

The Taylor card is made to look simple and clearly relate that this is the costume designer. The address is Napoleons Dynamite home address.
